Artist Statement:

Catherine Adamson lives and works in the Vancouver area of British Columbia. She was born in Vancouver, raised on farms in Langley in the Fraser Valley, and eventually raised her three children there. With the children grown, she returned to school and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts and English at the University of the Fraser Valley in 2003. In September, 2001, Catherine held a 50-piece solo exhibition at the university’s gallery. After graduating, she spent three years researching, writing, and publishing a book. Afterwards, she moved back to Vancouver and began exploring different methods of art-making. Catherine’s ‘free-flow’ style emerged as she allowed the paint to flow freely off the wooden stir-stick and down onto a waiting canvas, not worrying about precision or exactitude as she once did with a brush. Since then she has had many exhibitions, both solo and group shows, in and around Vancouver. These past two years she has won four awards at juried shows. Catherine’s paintings are filled with energy, movement, whimsy, depth and emotion that viewers absorb and enjoy. She paints from a place of joy within, and every piece speaks to her and takes her someplace new and wonderful. Catherine loves, and lives, to paint.
