Enda Bardell - Artist Statement:

What I deeply enjoy in my art is the total open-endedness of exploration of visioning. There are no constraints other than those I impose on myself. In watercolour landscapes, the element of capturing shifting, dancing clouds over open water and mountain tops is the challenge that fulfills my soul. In acrylic abstracts, I like to test the boundaries of the composition and see how far a colour combination or pattern can be extended before it collapses. I revel in the sense of freedom in this process, with no finality other than creating intrigue; inviting the viewer to discover how one form interacts with another.

BIOGRAPHY of ENDA BARDELL S.C.A.

Enda Bardell is a Canadian artist living and working in Vancouver, British Columbia. After her early forays into abstract painting in the late 1960s she has explored representational painting in oil, watercolour, and acrylic. Most recently she has returned to hard-edge metaphysical abstracts in acrylics which allow her an open-ended exploration of visioning. Born in Estonia, Enda as a child fled with her family to Sweden in 1944 just two days prior to the Soviet occupation. The family settled in Canada in 1951. Her parents nurtured her artistic interests and encouraged her to become an artist. Enda studied at the Vancouver School of Art and completed studio courses and workshops with prominent Canadian artists such as Toni Onley and Joan Balzar both of whom she considers her mentors. While maintaining an active art practice, Enda’s inquisitiveness has taken her through stimulating creative careers. She worked as a costume designer and fabric artist and founded her own company Enda B. Fashion. Since her first gallery shows in 1969 Enda exhibited her work in many group and solo exhibitions across Canada and in the US. Two of her early abstract paintings were included in the Estonian Art in Exile exhibition at KUMU National Art Museum of Estonia in Tallinn in 2010. Her works have been also selected by the curators to be included in the museum’s permanent historical collection.
