Artist Statement:
Klara was born and grew up in Cork, Ireland. She moved to Canada in 1978. Mainly a self-taught artist, Klara takes workshops and courses as part of an ongoing process of learning. She currently is mentored by Vancouver artist Paul Chizik.

She has a particularly artistic soft spot for birds, but her love of wildlife in general stretches from the air to the underwater world. With the help of her son, an avid and accomplished diver and photographer, she has begun to paint the mysterious, beautiful aquatic world. She has traveled extensively in South America, Europe, Trinidad and Tobago, Mexico, Australia and many other lands.

At this time Klara paints mainly in water-colour and oils. Some subjects lend themselves more to one medium than another, or perhaps it is a mood thing. The physicality of the paint, the texture, brushstrokes, all influence the final result and help create the desired effect. I think, overall, what I try to convey in my work is a certain atmosphere rather than, say, a portrait of an individual animal or place.
