Artist Statement:
Stuart Clugston is a Vancouver fine art photographer who explores both traditional landscape and contemporary subjects in his travels. Largely self-taught, Stuart's lifelong interest in photography began nearly 40 years ago when he worked as a newspaper photographer. After a long hiatus from the darkroom to pursue his corporate career, Stuart returned to serious photography in 2003 embracing large format black and white as his chosen medium. Returning to the tools and techniques of some of the last century's great photographers, Stuart was mentored and taught by his friend Alan Ross who was Ansel Adams' assistant and an outstanding fine art photographer in his own right. All of Stuart's images are captured on film and processed in his Vancouver darkroom. The archival prints are produced from scanned negatives and printed by Custom Digital in Seattle Washington. "Prairie Store" and "Driftwood, Roberts Creek" were selected by The Royal Photographic Society for its 151st International Print Exhibition which is currently touring the UK. Stuart's photography is in private collections in Canada, the US and the UK.
